Abstract

A Study of the Papañcadhamma in  Theravada  Buddhism   is    of     3 objectives, namely :-  (1) to study the meaning and the kind of Papañcadhamma in  Theravada  Buddhism, (2) to study the process of the arising  of  Papañcadhamma and the relationship with the connected group of Dhamma and (3) to study the method of lessening and abandoning the Papañcadhamma.

From the research, it is found that  the Papañcadhamma in  Theravada  Buddhism  categories is of about the  108  cravings,  the 62 views and  the 9 conceits,  all of which are the defilements causing one to be slow and be the organ causing one to think confusingly in the past,  in the present and in the future  cause  the people to misunderstand everything,   especially the five aggregates.

The relationship of the Papañcadhamma and Upàdànadhamma in the circle of Paticcasamuppāda. Papañcadhamma is the confusing defilement causing one to misunderstand  the five aggregates the fact of which causes Upàdàna in the five aggregates to arise.

The Papañcadhamma causes the perception to be abnormal and cause  the mine and the view to be abnormal  and also cause the persons to carry out their lives wrongly. In the Four Noble Truths,  the Papañcadhamma is Samudaya which in the cause of suffering and misunderstanding the suffering.

The attachment to the five aggregates is the suffering.  Papañcadhamma is  Samudaya  Dhamma,  Nippapañcadhamma  which  is  Nirodha Dhamma  and Magga   which  is  the practice to be away from Dukkha.   The Papañcadhamma arises  in  the  mind  arising  in  Chaāyatana.

Therefore, to reduce and to give up  the  Papañcadhamma  is the practice according the principles of Catu-Satipatthāna which means the mindfulness knowing  the  Papañcadhamma,  the  fact  of  which can stop the  Papañcadhamma.
